EVENTS in Onaka Ancient Village

Acorns Map

You can see various kinds of acorn in the open space in front of th museum and in Onaka Iseki park. The Japanese apricot forest is in blossom in early spring, Ginkgo trees change clolr to yellow in autumn.
Club members join various events through the year in the open space outside, in the museum, and join other regional events as well.

Perform an old traditonal play

HITOGATA NAGASHI

Reproduce and old purification ritual.
Transfer your bad luck, dislikes, and unhappy things onto a wooden figure,
float it on a river, and let it go away to the sea.

Onaka Iseki festival

: On 3rd November a big festival is held.
The start is a performance where crops and products are offered to the shaman "HIMIKO" on a stage and songs and dances follow.
The museum, club groups, and so on have workshops and food booths in the park.

Diorama of the RIKAN fort remain

Some of members made a diorama of the RIKAN fort remain on top of a mountain under a curator's instruction for a special exhibition.
Cutting Styroforam into ontours, the fort and the mountain were made and real stones were used for the fort's stonewall.
It was ixhibited at a special exhibition in the museum, and given to the board of education in Sayo-gun where the RIKAN fort is located.
Now you can see the diorama at a road station 'HIRAFUKU' in Sayo-cho.

TATAEA manufacturing

Members try iron manufacturing using old methods, instructed by a curator.

Making rice cakes with ancient rice

Pounding ancient rice into mochi (rice cake), we serve sweet red bean soup with mochi for visitors. Salls out quickly.

Outreach

Picture story show, weaving threads, rice cooking(kindling a fire), bronze replica, making magatama, wooden recorder and so on. Workshops are held in varous places, accepting requests.
