Introduction of each group in Hyogo Koukogaku Club

The club members support the museum, co-operate with its events, and do various activities to study archeology, to protect and utilize the cultural heritage of history.
The following groups exist for the members to get together to socialize. The members produce the experimantal workshops about ancient activities, and improve the techniques.

The first Friday of each month
By reading NIHON SHOKI, we try to understand ancient history deeply. If it is needed, we read KOJIKI and FUDOKI. Furthermore, we go to a short trip around the ramains and important places from the ancient history.
We survey both literature and archeology. It is the 1300th anniversary of NIHON SHOKI in 2020.

The forth Tuesday of each month
The ancient mounds around Hioka, Saijo, and Heisho Lake, along with the Kako River watershed are special in East Harima. We members enjoy guessing the mystery of our local history and go sightseeing in the places related to it.

We have replicated wooden tools used in ancient times already. Now we are thinking of replicating iron tools used to cut trees down and woodworking tools. We hope to arrange an experimantal workshop for them.

The second Saturday and the fourth Saturday and Sunday of each month
We joined the project reconstructing the pit houses with thatched roofs in Onaka Ancient Village. The project was planned to replicate 6 dwellings as the first Development Project.
Our activity's purpose is to maintain and to utilize them. 5 groups co-operate including this club group. We completed the 6th house and maintained the other houses in 2016.

We join the museum's events of rice planting and rice reaping as the ancient rice project.
We try threshing and hulling rice using old methods, steaming rice in earthenware, and salt making too. We plant wegetables that ancient people ate in the field, and we also plant the cotton, indigo, and ramie that the ORIHIME group uses.

The second and fourth Friday of each month
Using cotton, indogo and ramie planted in the field of the club, we make thread, dye it, and weave. In summer we dye cloth with indigo leaves and ancient rice bran. We have a workshop 'let's make a coaster with ramie'.
Our goal is spinning yarns, staining it with ancient colors and weaving cloth with a ring-type old weaving method. (a kind of handloom) We also run workshops for schools.

KAMISHIBAI WO STUKURU KAI

The first Saturday and the third Sunday of each month
We create pictures and scripts for new picture-story shows. We also perform old Japanese legends and tales on the third Sunday of each month in the museum.
We also go to other places and perform by request.
We welcome people who would like to paint or write, or who would like to acto as a voice actor. Our members are friendly. Our latest challenge is to perform in English.

New plan; We got good reviews on the plays 'Rice from the sea' and 'I'm full' in English at the International Archeology Conference in Kyoto in 2016. After that the idea of internationalizing the picture story shows came to us.
A British English teacher joined us in 2018 as an adviser, he has helped us with proof-reading newly created picture story shows, translating Harima Koku Fudoki Monogatari(Chronicles of Harima Province) to English, and reading aloud at regular performances. He helps with expanding our activities too.

The first and the third Wednesday of each month
We replicate ancient bronze tools (magatama, mirror, sword, etc) cast in a low solubility alloy which is melted with a portable stove. We also conduct experimantal workshops with the museum.

The second and fourth Thursday of each month
We replicate glass magatama dug out from mounds in Hyogo Prefecture. After much traial and error, we got the skills to instruct workshops in the museum and other places. Members get along with each other well. We run workshops with the museum.
This year we are attempting to replicate the ancient fish form with glass.

The first and the fourth Friday of each month
We are trying to improve our skills with glazed earthenware, referring to Nara Sansai. We mainly attempt to replicate earthenware and figurines. This picture is figures replicated at Onaka Kiln. This year we plan to improve the calcination technique by reforming the Onaka Kiln.

Irregular dates
We publish a club newsletter once a month. As a recorder for the club, so-called ancient 'bureaucrats', we hope to be historical and archelogical journalists to broadcast the club activities to the public. Interviewing the International Archeology Confrence this summer, we broadcasted about our club to the world.
Be a bureaucrat! We welcome someone who likes to write, and who can use PC word-processing programs.
